Ramechhap – Lukla flight
Ramechhap to Lukla flight is the new flight opening from 16th September 2023 as per the decision made by the authorization of Nepal Civil Aviation Department. The flight is diverted to control heavy air traffic in Kathmandu airport.
Ramechhap airport, officially known as Manthali airport, is situated at a lower elevation (east of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal) and is less affected by the adverse weather conditions that often impact Lukla. It serves as an alternative airport for flight to and from Lukla. The flight from Ramechhap to Lukla typically takes around 30 minutes and vice versa. Lukla is a small town in the Khumbu region of Nepal and is a popular gateway for trekkers and climbers heading to the Everest region.

How to reach Ramechhap airport?
Ramechhap airport can be reach by road from Kathmandu.The distance between Kathmandu to Ramechhap is approximately 82 miles (132 km) by road. The drive takes around 4 to 6 hours depending on road conditions, traffic and the type of vehicle you are using. The journey takes you through hilly terrain and winding roads.
If you want to catch flight to Lukla for same day, then you have to wake up early morning before dawn for an early morning drive. But if you have enough time, you can spend overnight in one of the cozy lodge in Manthali town then take next early morning flight to Lukla. The hotel is available at the distance of 5 minute walk from the airport.

The drive leads on the new BP highway which is an enjoyable drive through the old town of Dhulikhel and then heading to southeast to reach Ramechhap airport. Keep in mind, the flight to Lukla is completely depends on the weather condition. The weather can be unpredictable even in the best seasons which lead to delay and cancellation for next day either in the beginning or at the end flying from Lukla to Kathmandu or Manthali airport in Ramechhap.
